Origin & Distribution of Pointed Gourd
Pointed Gourd is also known as 'Parwar' in south asian countries like India, Nepal, etc. It is believed that India is the origination of Pointed gourd. The edible part of Pointed gourd is 'fruit', which can be cooked in various ways either alone or accompanied with other vegetables.

Varieties of Pointed Gourd in Nepal
In the context of Nepal, No improved varieties of Pointed gourd have been recommended so far. But, some of the promising varieties are Green Oval, Bihar Sharit, Guly, FPS, etc.

  • Pointed gourd are good source of vitamins and minerals
  • Pointed gourd posses medicinal property of controlling cholestrol level & blood sugar level
  • Pointed gourd also helps in improving digestion and treats constipation problem

Climate & Soil required for Pointed Gourd
  • Pointed gourd grows best in warm to hot humid climate so it doesn't tolerate frost, water logging soil & extreme cold climate
  • For optimum growth, required temperature = 30 to 35 degree celsius
  • Soil should be slightly acidic and should have pH range about 6.0-6.5
